Deerwalkers Hike to Manakamana

By Pratibh Acharya

On 14th Dec 2014, the Hiking Club of DWIT organized a hike to the Manakamana temple. 13 students along with the hike coordinator Amrit Silwal (DWIT Administration) went for the hike. The hikers were to reach Abu Khairini and walk all the way to the Manakamana temple.

The hikers left the college premises around 7:30 A.M. They stopped at Muglin for snacks around 10:00 A.M. The cheerful energy that filled the hikers at the initial stages of the trip seemed to fade away as their destination to Abu Khairini was longer than most of them had anticipated. The drizzling rain didn't liven up the things either. Finally the hikers reached the starting point of their journey at 12:30 P.M.

Finally at 12:45 P.M, the long journey to the temple began. Slipping, sliding and with fatigue, the hikers traveled the route and rested half way through the journey for a cup of tea in the cold weather. It took the hikers around 4.5 hours to reach the Manakamana temple. The hikers finally reached the top at 4:30 P.M.

Everyone took their time to worship at the temple. With cold wind blowing and fog surrounding the temple, the hike coordinator decided that it was time to return home. Most of the hikers were already tired, so they decided that they would return via cable car.

The hikers reached downhill at 5:45 P.M and the return trip started. They had their dinner there and the journey back home started. With tired feet and a full stomach, most of the hikers were silent on the return trip. The bus returned to college around 10:00 P.M dropping the hikers on the way.
