An example of act of carelessness at DWIT

By Sneha Parajuli

“Oh! It’s so hot today, isn't it?” I sighed. “Yes, indeed! Let’s go drink some water”, my friend Shreha replied. It was a really hot and tiresome day. As soon as the class was over, we ran towards the corner of the corridor where drinking water was placed. Suddenly, Shreha groaned, “What is this? This is such a waste.” I looked to see what the matter was. I was taken aback by surprise too. We saw a sight of drinking water spilled all over the floor. We immediately ran and closed the tap. This is a serious issue. It reflects the fact that the students are being careless day by day. Regardless of the fact that the campus chief had given clear instructions about being careful concerning such things, the students seem to have ignored his instructions. “Whose mistake was that?” “Was it the water system’s flaw or was it the irresponsibility of the students?” “Is it the property of the college only? “Should the students not be concerned about such matters?" These questions arose in my mind. If the students had been more careful about closing the tap, then so much of water wouldn't have been wasted. News about water scarcity victimizing people and even diminishing the population in different parts of the country and even the world are frequently heard. However, the people here are so busy in their day to day activities that no one has time to close the tap. How can they be so ignorant and fail to understand the value of water? Moreover, the didis of the college would have saved a considerable amount of time to do some other works rather than cleaning the spilled water. What if someone had slipped in the water and broken his/her leg? Who would have taken the responsibility? The tap? The spilled water? Or the student himself/herself? We all know the importance of water, don't we? We all are indeed aware about the consequence of wastage of water as we've been studying about these since our school days. Then why are we acting so irresponsibly about these kinds of issues? Why are we being selfish? Can we not expend a few seconds of our lives in order to save water? As long as these questions remain unanswered, our activities will continue to exhibit our ignorance.
